"The time for criticism is always now"

A.O. Scott asserts this in his recent ode to criticism, Better Living Through Criticism: How to Think About Art, Pleasure, Beauty, and Truth and I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Scott argues that criticism informs all aspects of our daily lives; criticism is the ever-present core of our social interactions, our innermost feelings and our creative pursuits.

Though Peephole has been on unscheduled hiatus for a little while, our critical impulses are still very much alive. The time for criticism is always now. In this fourth issue of our journal, we bring you five essays on a diverse range of screen content. Each is a work of creativity, drawing attention to the interplay between elements within the frame while emphasising tensions present at the micro level of the image. I must thank these writers for their patience and for their generous and thought provoking contributions. I hope you find the pieces both entertaining and I encourage you to find the synergies and dissonances between them. Please stay tuned, Peephole has exciting things happening.
